Meet the Band

Mark plays hammered dulcimer and has performed in the region for many years. He is a self-taught musician who has learned styles and technique from watching and listening to others including Jerry Reed Smith (who built the instrument Mark plays).

Leonard is from a long line of accomplished musicians. He studied classical guitar and many styles of music. He has performed music with some of the top regional artists and has served as a mentor for others. He is a collector of fine guitars and has several rare, commissioned instruments. 

Josie is from a musical family. Both her parents are professional musicians. She studied violin and voice from her youth and has recently worked to adapt her skills to the music performed by Appalachian Consort. Like Leonard, Josie has a strong background in classical music and has made numerous appearances as a vocal soloist in western North Carolina.

Lee has a background playing multiple styles of music and has played, composed, and recorded music ranging from classical to bluegrass and Latin jazz. Lee has performed bluegrass since eleven and has performed with numerous bands over the years. He has taught and mentored numerous students over the years. Lee is currently a member of the Asheville Symphony, where he is co-principal bass.
